Create your definition of Financial Independence

The definition of financial independence is different for everyone, for some, it is to have substantial amount of money, while for others it may mean being able to hobnob with the rich and famous, while for some it may just mean the elimination of all worries with regards with money and finances, so what is the "right" definition?

YOUR DEFINITION!

When it comes to goal setting with the aim of achieving financial independence, the only thing that is truly important is what you believe and value. The moment you start trying to live by someone else's standards, you are most likely remain discontented and may cause you to be miserable the rest of your life.

What is your standard for financial independence?

To help us define what is our standard for financial independence we have to envision our future, not just in terms of monetary milestones but in terms of what our life would look like once we have achieve independence.

VISUALIZE
yourself actually spending money on things you have always wanted. Would you move to a bigger house? how many rooms will it have? imagine yourself in your very own and private "music room" where you can spend all day listening to your favorite music from the latest high-tech audio components.

The problem for some of us is that we have stopped dreaming, we assumed that if we don't think too much of our financial worries, it might make our frustrations a little easier to endure, but this is how life goes, we may not get everything we want immediately, with proper planning and preparation, we may however still get it in the future, but we have to know "WHAT IS IT THAT WE REALLY WANT". All of these will have clarity once we start defining our standard for financial independence.

Kahlil Gibran : The Prophet - On Joy and Sorrow

Then a woman said, "Speak to us of Joy and Sorrow."

And he answered:

Your joy is your sorrow unmasked.
And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises was oftentimes filled with your tears.
And how else can it be?

The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain.
Is not the cup that hold your wine the very cup that was burned in the potter's oven?
And is not the lute that soothes your spirit, the very wood that was hollowed with knives?

When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy.

When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.

Some of you say, "Joy is greater than sorrow," and others say, "Nay, sorrow is the greater."
But I say unto you, they are inseparable.

Together they come, and when one sits alone with you at your board, remember that the other is asleep upon your bed.

Verily you are suspended like scales between your sorrow and your joy.

Only when you are empty are you at standstill and balanced.

When the treasure-keeper lifts you to weigh his gold and his silver, needs must your joy or your sorrow rise or fall.
